I must confess I have a major crush on GUCCI and often find myself lusting over their vintage looking luxury wares.
I'm a Gucci girl all the way. - @ourdubailife (Click to tweet)
My Gucci obsession began about three years ago when I was fortunate to find two vintage Gucci handbags for the princely sum of £50. I bought the bags from an amazing, eccentric older lady who was selling her vintage items at a local antique market and from that day onward the love affair with the brand began.
Admittingly my vintage Gucci bags are not in pristine condition and still have a thick, musty odour but the flaws add to their charm, and with the below bag history, it cemented my infatuation! The lady lovingly explained to me both vintage 60's bags were purchased from the Gucci flagship store in ITALY by her late husband on their honeymoon - With that romanticism, the deal was sealed, and they were mine!
Fast forward 3 years and where are we? Living in Dubai with a Gucci store in every mall. It's not unusual to find yourself in some high-end shop buying some gorgeous albeit unnecessary item to add to your ever-growing mass of unnecessary goods.

With that said, I too am a lux label addict!
I may have lost touch with reality, but I do think that Gucci is pretty reasonably priced, especially compared to its sisters out there in the market ... a cough ... The brand exudes luxury but has a firm grasp on function and durability. The classic print will always do it for me, and with the updated design by the amazing creative director Alessandro Michele the brand has added another layer of beauty to their designs.
So I needed some Gucci Espadrilles in my life... Espadrilles are the perfect summer shoe and can take both the summer heat and can be dressed up and down, this means for me neverending potential to actually wear them, opposed to them sitting on my bedroom luxury shelf just being admired.
£270 for a bit of canvas you say ...?
Within 30 mins of entering the Gucci store in Mall of Emirates (MOE), I was walking out of the shop with the classic but feminine designed Bloom print Espadrilles.
The Nitty Gritty
I'm a standard 38.5 - 39 shoe size but for all luxury shoes its always recommended to size up at least half a size - I tried on the 39, and although I'd say a perfect fit, I opted for 39.5, the reason being the sweltering Dubai heat! You need to be prepared for a little foot swell or feet slide, and that extra room can accommodate both eventualities.
I tried on all three printed designs while in the shop, the Gucci Tian / Gucci Bengal and Gucci Blooms and although I never met a pair of Gucci espadrilles I didn't like, on this occasion, I went with the Blooms! I'm sure I'll need a further pair at some point, so maybe I will go with the Tian or the Black signature leather?
The durable coating of the GG canvas means that unlike some other luxury espadrilles out there in the market (I mention no names) the shoes can take the harsh sunlight and sometimes arid terrain of the Dubai landscape, depending on your weekend expeditions;
The shoes can be dressed up for a lunch date with that gorgeous sundress or down with your trusty pair of skinny blue jeans for your shopping trips or weekend desert car rides. They are very comfortable and mould nicely to the shape of your foot, it does take a little while to find the perfect way to get into the shoe, but once you have mastered the knack, the skill will never leave you ... just like riding a bike haha.
My criticisms are after only the second time wearing the espadrilles the inner leather Gucci label came unstuck, no big deal as the label is on the inside but still ... and I find the slightly questionable colour coordination of the trim, a dark mauve opposed to a colour wheel perfect trim match, a little annoying! Although the mauve is not an awful shade, I do feel a comparable pale pink shade or dark fuschia pink of the shoes main 'bloom' design would have been a perfect choice.

I am thrilled with my Gucci bloom espadrilles and find myself reaching for them all the time. I recommend getting your hands on a pair you will not regret it!
Love to hear your thoughts on these Gucci beauties
